Elder Wand Crochet Hook + new listing!

I got requested a LONG time ago to do this crochet hook. I had tried one attempt, didn't like it and then gave up on making another one. For whatever reason I got inspired to try to make it again. My skills have gotten better and I have better tools and techniques so I figured the second attempt would be better. Sure enough it was! I think this one came out pretty neat.

It is made out of tan polymer clay. I used different sized dotting tools to make weird oblong circles on it. Then I painted it with different shades of brown paint. I used a pencil and black paint to paint the small details on the band.

I think it came out pretty good and fairly true to the movie wand. I'm going to be selling these on Etsy. I normally do tutorials with these but wasn't sure if anyone was going to be interested in seeing that but if you are, you can shoot me a comment or message and I would be more than willing to put one up! Harry Potter's Wand Crochet Hook Grip tutorial

I have been selling crochet hook grips on etsy. I got asked if I could make a Harry Potter crochet hook grip. This is what I came up with. This one is a little more complicated and has a lot more steps than my other crochet hook grips. Overall, I am pretty impressed with the way it came out. I think it is pretty accurate to the wand used in the movies. 

Things you will need

• Wine colored polymer clay
• Metal crochet hook
• A toothpick or something fine pointed to add detail
• Black acrylic paint
• Brown acrylic paint
• Wine colored acrylic paint
• Tweezers
• Makeup sponge

1. As always, we need to start off with a base. Take a piece of clay and just roll it around the crochet hook. Rub it between your hands to smooth out any seams.

2. Take a little band of clay and place it in the middle. Rub out the ends so it looks ridged around the edges.

3. Next, take a ball of clay and put it on the end of the wand. Smooth out the edges to make it seamless with the body.

4. Now we add the knots and the wood grain. Take small pieces of clay and add them to shaft of the wand. I usually do about two or three knots. To add the wood grain, take a toothpick or a tool and just start at the top of and kind of trace around the knots. 

5. For the bottom ball of the wand, I used a piece of foil and just crumpled it around the clay. Try not to let it touch anything but the ball on the bottom.

4. Now for some final details! For the middle band, use your toothpick or tool to draw circles. I did a small circle than a bigger one, and a bigger one around that. It doesn't matter if they're perfect. I just did this all the way around the band. Finally, draw a U shape (I don't know how else to describe it) from the middle of the top to the back.

5. Then bake according to your packaging's instructions. I had to bake mine for about an hour. 

6. Once the wand is completely cool it is now ready to be painted. I mixed black and the wine color and used a little bit of the makeup sponge and the tweezers to sponge on the paint. I wanted the color of the clay to peek through a bit. I used the black on the handle part of the wand. Next, I mixed the brown and wine color and painted the rest of the wand with this color. I used the same technique with the sponge and the tweezers. With the brown color I wanted it to be more opaque. 

That's how I made Harry Potter's wand into a crochet hook grip!

Hermione's wand crochet hook grip

I have been feeling a little uninspired lately. I was browsing Tumblr and I came across these crochet hooks with light saber grips and wand grips. I thought they were pretty cool. Since I'm poor and cheap, I only wanted to buy one pack of polymer clay, so I decided to try to make a wand one. I had everything else I needed at home. I've always liked Hermione's wand so that's the wand I went for. For the crochet hook size I decided to go with a H hook since I had two of those, in case it turned out to be a disaster.

Things you will need

• aluminum crochet hook, any size, 
• polymer clay, preferably brown or wand colored
• paint
• makeup sponge
• tweezers
  
  
  
  1. I started off by working the clay a little bit just to warm it up. 
  
  
  
  2. I took a chunk of clay and started to form it around the crochet hook. I rolled it between my hands to smooth out any seams.
  
  
  
  3. I then made some "snakes" to use as the vines. 
  
  
  
  4. I took one of the longer "snakes" and wrapped it once around the bottom and then slower started to wrap it all the way around. I then took some smaller pieces and attached them off of the first one I put on to make them look like vines.
  
  
  
  5. I took a piece of clay and rolled it out to cut out the leaves. I just used a toothpick to carve out a leaf shape and attached it to the end of the vines. Once it was attached, I used the tooth pick to put line on top of the leaf. 
  
  
  
  6. I made a makeshift baking sheet out of foil and baked this bad boy for about 25 minutes. I don't think I need to say this but make sure to use a metal crochet hook.
  
  
  
  7. This is what it looks like out of the oven. You could leave it like this but I wanted to add a little more to it. 
  
  
  
  8. I used some brown acrylic paint, a makeup sponge, and some tweezers to paint the wand. I ripped off a little pieces of the makeup sponge and used the tweezers to sponge on the paint. I dunked the sponge in some paint and dabbed off the excess. I then just started sponging the paint all over the wand just to give it some dimension. 
  
  
  
  
  
  
  9. ...And this is the final result! I think they came out pretty cool! They were pretty easy to make and definitely worth trying out if you're a Harry Potter fan.

  Crochet Gryffindor Scarf.

Crochet Gryffindor Scarf

My boyfriend loves Harry Potter so for Christmas I thought I would make him a Gryffindor themed scarf. Since I was making everyone else their gifts too, I took a little shortcut, I used Red Heart's Team Spirit yarn so I wouldn't have to change colors. The color changes aren't too terribly noticeable. This is pretty easy to make. I think I made it about seven inches wide and I used the tunisian knit stitch. I had to use two skeins of yarn to get the length of the scarf. I eventually would like to put the Gryffindor crest patch on it but it works for now. :)

Nate's modeling career was short lived. He has since retired.
