Crochet LA Kings logo

I posted the New York Rangers logo yesterday and now I'm going to post the LA Kings one. I will say this one came out a lot bigger than I thought it would. If I decide to make another I will probably make it a little differently. I will get to that later though. This is what I came up with.

I crocheted the base and needle felted the letters on there. The crown is an iron on transfer. For this you are going to have to know some basic color changes and how to carry the yarn. You will also need to know how to single crochet decrease.

For the base
Hook size F/5- 3.75 mm

With grey, chain 21

Row 1-10- 1 grey stitch (carry the yarn,) 18 black stitches, 1 grey stitch, ch 1 and turn
On the last row change colors to grey 
Row 11- 1 grey stitch in each. change colors to white, ch 1 and turn
Row 12- 1 white stitch in each, change colors to grey, ch1 and turn
Row 13- 1 grey stitch in each,  ch 1 and turn
Row 14- 16 (3 rows)- 1 grey stitch (carry the yarn,) 18 black stitches, 1 grey stitch, ch 1 and turn
Row 17- 1 SC decrease with grey, finish the stitch with black, 1 SC decrease with black, 1 SC in next 12 stitches, 1 black SC decrease, finish the stitch with grey, 1 SC decrease with grey. Ch 1 and turn
Row 18- 1 SC decrease with grey, finish the stitch with black, 1 SC decrease with black, 1 SC in next 8 stitches, 1 black SC decrease, finish the stitch with grey, 1 SC decrease with grey. Ch 1 and turn
Row 19- 1 SC decrease with grey, finish the stitch with black, 1 SC decrease with black, 1 SC in next 4 stitches, 1 black SC decrease, finish the stitch with grey, 1 SC decrease with grey. Ch 1 and turn
Row 20- 1 SC decrease with grey, 2 SC decrease with black, 1 SC decrease with grey. Ch 1 and turn
Row 21- With grey 2 SC decreases. Ch 1, and turn
Row 22- With grey, 1 SC decrease. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Like I said if i decide to make any more of these I plan on doing them slightly differently. I think I'll make the whole base black except for the rows that need to be grey and white and then I'll just SC a grey border around the whole thing. I thought doing it the way I did would look better but towards the bottom with the decreases there are some very obvious color changes that I do not like.

For the LA part, I printed out a logo about the same size as the crocheted one. I took an Xacto knife and cut out the L and the A. I taped it on the crochet piece and used it as sort of a stencil for the needle felting. If you don't want to or don't know how to needle felt, you can just use felt to cut out the letters and you can glue or sew them on.

Although I think it would look fine without the crown, I wanted to find a way to put it on there. I tried felt but the crown was just too small and detailed for it to come out right. I ended up buying iron on transfers. 

I just followed the directions in the package. I ironed mine on felt, cut it out, and glued it on and then sewed it on the crocheted piece. If you plan on washing these, I suggest using a washable glue or sewing it on there.

Crochet New York Rangers Logo

I like hockey and I like crochet, so obviously I should crochet hockey stuff. I've been wanting to crochet more hockey logos and make more hockey inspired crafts. I decided to start with this years Stanley Cup finalists. I started with the New York Rangers and I'll have LA out soon too. This is what I came up with.

I crocheted the base and just needle felted the details on. 

For the base
Hook size- F/5- 3.75 mm

Chain 21
Row 1- SC second chain from the hook, 1 SC in each stitch, ch1, turn
Row 2- 2 SC decreases, 1 SC in next 12 stitches, 2 SC decreases, ch 1, turn
Row 3- 2 SC decreases, 1 SC in next 8 stitches, 2 SC decreases, ch 1, turn
Row 4-13 (10 rows)- 1 SC in each stitch, ch 1, turn

Row 14- 1 SL ST in first 5 stitches, 1 DC in next 2 stitches, 5 SL ST. Fasten off and weave in loose ends. Leave a long tail if you're going to sew it onto something else.

For the details you can use felt or sew them on. I needle felted mine on there. I found that the felt was too hard to get the letters cut out. I didn't trust myself to try to embroider them either.

I printed out a logo that was about the same size as the base. I used an Xacto knife to cut out where I would be detailing on the base. I just used this as kind of a stencil. Obviously this isn't going to come out perfect. You're going to have to peel off the stencil and work the felt in more to get it the way you want. For the lines I just free-handed them since they are such a fine detail. I also free-handed the points at the top of logo too. I used felting wool for the white and I cut up red yarn and used that for the red, since I didn't have an red felting wool.

I just wanted to make a quick post about what I've been crocheting. I started a really big afghan that is going to take me a while to finish so I've been trying to make smaller things to keep me from getting bored with the project. I thought I would be able to make the Flyers' logo so I took a whack at it. I think it came out pretty alright. It definitely needs a little tweaking but for the most part, I think it came out pretty good. I'm not going to post the pattern because I honestly don't think anyone would be interested but if you are let me know and I would be more than happy to share it. :)

Hook size G
I work in continuous rounds

With orange ch 3, sl st together
Round 1- 6 SC in center
Round 2- 2 SC in each, change colors to white at the end of the round (12)
Round 3- 2 SC in each, change colors to black at the end of the round (24)
Round 4- 1 SC in each

Chain 14, 13 SC down the chain and sl st to join with the circle
11 SC, Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in each, sl to join, ch 1,
9 SC, Ch 1, turn, 1 SC in each, sl st to join, ch 1
7 SC, ch 1, turn, 1 SC in each, sl to join, change colors to white, SC all around (there's really no wrong way to do it)

Take a yarn needle with white yarn and add the detail in between the wings.
