Crochet BB-8 Beanie Pattern

I've seen The Force Awakens three times. I think I saw all in about two weeks. It is absolutely one of the best movies I have ever seen. Feeling a little inspired with all the Star Wars awesomeness I decided to make a BB-8 beanie

For the beanie

Hook Size J /10-6.00 MM
Work in continuous rounds
With white

Chain 3, sl st together

Round 1- 6 SC in center of circle
Round 2- 2 DC in each stitch (12)
Round 3- 2 DC in each stitch (24) Change color to gray
Round 4- 2 DC in each stitch (48)
Round 5- 1 DC in each stitch, change color to white
Round 6- 1 DC in each stitch, change color to orange
Round 7- 1 DC in each stitch, change color to white
Round 8-11- 1 DC in each stitch
Round 12- There is a lot of color changes in this round. 13 DC in first 13 stitches, 1 orange stitch, 1 white, 1 orange, 1 white, 5 orange, 1 white, 1 orange, 11 white, 3 orange, 1 white, 1 orange, 7 white, change color to gray.
Round 13- 1 DC in each, change color to white
Round 14- 1 DC in each
Round 15- 1 SC in each, sl st into second chain from hook, finish off sew in ends.

For the big "eye"

Hook size G/6- 4.25 MM
Work in continuous rounds
With black

Ch 3, sl st together
Round 1- 6 SC in center
Round 2- 1 SC, 2 SC in second, repeat around the round (9)
Round 3- 1 SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in the third (12)
Round 4- 1 SC in next 3 stitches, 2 SC in the fourth (15)
Round 5- 1 SC in next 4 stitches, 2 SC in fifth (18)
Round 6- 1 SC in next 5 stitches, 2 SC in the sixth (21)
Sl St second chain from hook, finish off, leave long tail to sew onto the hat.

Use red yarn to give the "eye" a little light.

For the smaller "eye"

Hook size G/6- 4.25 MM
Work in continuous rounds
With black

Ch 3, sl st together
Round 1- 6 SC in center
Round 2- 1 SC, 2 SC in second, repeat around the round (9)
Round 3- 1 SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in the third (12) Change color to white
Round 4- 1 SC in next 3 stitches, 2 SC in the fourth (15) Change color to black
Round 5- 1 SC in next 4 stitches, 2 SC in fifth (18)
Sl st second chain from hook, finish off, leave long tail to sew onto hat

I used poly fiber fill to stuff the eyes so they would hold their shape. If you don't want them so three dimensional you can join rounds instead of doing continuous rounds and they will lay more flat.

Sew eyes onto the beanie and you're done!

I hope you enjoy the pattern and if you have any questions feel free to contact me. I am normally pretty quick to respond. :)

Download the printable PDF here.

If you use my pattern send me pictures on Instagram @chocolatebearz or on tumblr. I would love to see what you come up with.

Crochet Chicago Blackhawks Beanie pattern

Can I let you in on a little secret? I'm actually an Avalanche fan. *gasp* There are a lot of Blackhawks fans in Colorado though. When I go to the Avs vs. Blackhawks game I always get a little jealous of all the cool things the fans can do. I've seen girls with feathers in their hair and people with face paint that matches the mascot. As an Avs fan we don't really have any of that. Our mascot is a dog for god's sake. I haven't come up with anything really awesome for us Avs fans yet but I did make a really cool Blackhawks beanie. I hope you enjoy!

For the hat, you can pretty much use whatever basic beanie pattern you like.

This is what I did for mine.

Hook size J/10- 6.00 MM

Ch 3, sl st together
I work in continuous rounds.

Round 1- 6 SC in center of the circle
Round 2- 2 DC in each stitch (12)
Round 3- 2 DC in each stitch (24)
Round 4- 2 DC in each stitch (48)
Round 5-14 (10 rounds, I never know how to count that)- 1 DC in each stitch
Round 15- 1 SC in each stitch
On the last row, sl st in 2nd stitch to even off the round.

For the feathers

You're going to do the same thing for all the feathers except the only difference is how many chains you start with.
I have an in depth blog about how to crochet the feathers that you can find here.

Hook size G/6- 4.25 MM

Red feather- Chain 13
Green feather- Chain 18
Yellow feather- Chain 21
Orange feather- Chain 26
Ch however many stitches you need, Sl st down the chain 2nd chain from the hook. Ch 1, turn
1. 1 SC in each stitch. When you get to the end of the row, put hook into other side of the chain and SC down the other side of the chain. Ch 1, turn
2. 1 SC in each stitch in the back loops only. Finish off, leave a long tail to sew onto the hat.
3. Add detail like the ribbing according to the mascot's colors.

The cool thing about the feather pattern is it is very versatile. If you don't like the feather sizes I used you can always chain a different amount and go from there.

Once all the feathers are done, just sew them on the hat as you see fit and that's it!

I really love how this hat came out! Perfect for all those hockey games! If you guys have any questions, always feel free to ask. I'm normally pretty quick at replying to comments and questions.

You can also buy one of these beanies from my etsy.  :)

Crochet Feathers Pattern

I wanted to make a Chicago Blackhawks beanie. I needed to find a feathers pattern but couldn't find one I really liked and I didn't want to pay for one. I ended up coming up with one on my own and it ended up being really easy to put together. This is what I came up with.

The good thing about this pattern is that it's really versatile. I have made four different sizes of feathers with it and they all come out great. It all just depends on how many chains you start with.

I'm using a hook size G/6-4.25MM

1. Chain 21

2. Slip stitch down the chain from the second chain from the hook for 20 stitches. Chain 1 and turn

3. 1 SC in each stitch

4. Instead of chaining and turning, we're going to start single crocheting on the other side. So, when you get to the end of the row you're going to put your hook in the chain on the other side and start your first single crochet.

5. 1 SC in each of the chains. There will be little holes. Single crochet into those little spaces. Chain 1, turn

6. 1 SC in every stitch, in the back loops only. This will create a nice little ridge.

Should look something like this when you're finished. Now we're going to add some details.

Use a contrasting color. Pull the yarn through the back and bring it forward and pull through the back again to create one stitch.Work down the middle spine of the feather.

This is the technique I'm going to be using for all the stitches. Pull the yarn through the back lower than the first stitch that was created and then pull through the front where the first stitch was created. Do this all the way down the spine of the feather.

Pull the yarn through the back outside of the ridge. Bring it forward and place it where there are breaks in the stitches and do the same thing on the other side.

Should look something like this. You can leave it like this or keep going. For the project I was doing I kept going.

I outlined the outside edges of my feather. If you want to do this just use the same technique as the rest of the feather.

That's it! That's how you crochet a feather. Remember that if you want to make different sizes you just have to chain a different amount and the rest of the directions stay the same.

Simpler directions

Ch 21 (or however big or small you want), Sl st down the chain 2nd chain from the hook. Ch 1, turn
1. 1 SC in each stitch. When you get to the end of the row, put hook into other side of the chain and SC down the other side of the chain. Ch 1, turn
2. 1 SC in each stitch in the back loops only. Finish off, leave a long tail if sewing onto something else.
3. Add detail if you want.

As always if you have any questions always feel free to ask. I'm normally pretty quick to respond to questions. :)

Crochet Finn hat

I love Adventure Time! I felt the need to make a Finn hat. I made my nephew a hat for his birthday back in May and never got around to blogging about it. I finally got some time and made a hat for myself and this is what I did.

Size J hook
I work in continuous rounds

Ch 3, sl st first chain to join

Row 1- 6 SC in center of the circle
Row 2- 2 DC in in each stitch (12)
Row 3- 2 DC in each stitch (24)
Row 4- 2 DC in each stitch (48)
Row 5-15- 1 DC in each stitch
On the last row, sl st in 2nd stitch to even off the round.

For the ear flaps

You are going to continue from the last round

Row 16- Ch 3, 1 DC in the next 12 stitches, ch 3, turn
Row 17- 1 DC in each stitch, ch 3, turn
Row 18- DC 2 together, 1 DC in the next 8, DC 2 together, ch 3, turn (10)
Row 19- DC 2 together, 1 DC in the next 6, DC 2 together, ch 3, turn (8)
Row 20- DC 2 together, 1 DC in the next 4, DC 2 together, ch 3, turn (6)
Row 21- 1 DC in each stitch, tie off and leave a long tail and sew through the bottom to tighten up.

For the other flap attach the yarn where you want the other flap to start and do the exact same thing on that side.

For the ears
I'm still using a size J hook.

Ch 3, sl st to join
Row 1- 6 SC in center of the circle
Row 2- 2 SC in each stitch (12)
Row 3-5- 1 SC in each stitch
Stuff with poly fiber fill and attach to the hat as you see fit.

I kind of think the hat looks like a polar bear hat but to any Adventure Time fan, they will know that it's a Finn hat. ^_^

If you have any questions, always feel free to ask.

Crochet Link/elf hat

I've recently been playing a lot of The Legend of Zelda lately. I really like the whole universe and story of the game. I wanted to make a Link hat but couldn't find one that I really liked. I tried to come up with my own pattern but not really sure if I liked the way I did it. I originally was going to share the pattern and then I decided not to and then changed my mind again and decided to share it. I figure might as well. Feel free to leave any feed back if you feel there is a better way to do this.

Hook size I
I work in continuous rounds.

Chain 3, sl st into first stitch to join

Row 1- 6 SC in center of round
Row 2- 1 SC in 1st stitch, 2 SC in 2nd (9)
Row 3-4- 1 SC in each stitch
Row 5-1 HDC in next 2 stitches, 2 HDC in 3rd stitch (12)
Row 6-7- 1 HDC in each stitch
Row 8- 1 DC in next 3 stitches, 2 in the 4th (15)
Row 9-10- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 11- 1 DC in next 4, 2 in the 5th (18)
Row 12-13- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 14- 1 DC in next 5 stitches, 2 in the 6th (21)
Row 15-16- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 17- 1 DC in next 6 stitches, 2 in the 7th (24)
Row 18-19- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 20- 1 DC in next 7, stitches, 2 in the 8th (27)
Row 21-23- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 24- 1 DC in next 8 stitches, 2 in the 9th (30)
Row 25-26- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 27- 1 DC in the next 9 stitches, 2 in the 10th (33)
Row 28-29- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 30- 1 DC in the next 10 stitches, 2 in the 11th (36)
Row 31- 1 DC in the next 11 stitches, 2 in the 12th (39)
Row 32- 1 DC in the next 12 stitches, 2 on the 13th (42)
Row 33- 1 DC in the next 13, stitches, 2 in the 14th (45)
Row 34- 1 DC in the next 14 stitches, 2 in the 15th (48)
Row 35- 1 DC in each stitch
Row 36- 1 DC in next 15 stitches, 2 in the 16th (51)
Row 37-43- 1 DC in each stitch, sl st at the end of the round to even it off in the second chain in the round.

You can finish the hat with however many rows as you see fit.

I like to roll the bottom few rows up to give it a band type look.

As with all the "patterns" I post, use with caution. This is just to show what I did and I'm sure I don't do things the "right" way.

Crochet Marshmallow Amigurumi

Now you can judge me by the books I read.

I went to an Etsy craft party a week ago and they had s'mores there. Towards the end of the night the caterers were giving away all the leftover food. They were handing out marshmallows so I grabbed a bag and the bag had these cute little marshmallows on them. (I had a picture but my phone got stolen so I lost all my pictures) I decided that these little marshmallows would make cute amigurumi. I have only made amigurumi once before and I've never tried to come up with a pattern myself so this is my first attempt. Use with caution and I hope you guys like it.

I used a size J hook.

Chain 3, sl st into the first chain

Row 1- 6 SC in center of loop. Sl st to join

Row 2- 2 SC in each stitch, sl st join (12)

Row 3- 1 SC in first, 2 SC in second all the way around, sl st to join (18)

Row 4- 1 SC in next 2, 2 SC in third all the way around,  sl st to join (24)

Row 5- 1 SC in next 3, 2 SC in fourth, all the way around, sl st to join (30)

Row 6- 1 SC in next 4, 2 SC in fifth, all the way around, sl st to join (36)

Row 7-10- 1 SC in each stitch, sl st rounds together

Work in continuous rounds now

Row 11-21- 1 SC in each stitch, work in continuous rounds

I made the face at this point. I just used felt for the face so that I could give it Anime eyes. The face can be done any way you would like though. I also started stuffing at this point.

Stop working in continuous rounds.

Row 22-25- 1 SC in each stitch, sl st round to join

Row 26- 1 SC in next 4 stitches, 1 SC decrease (30)

Row 27- 1 SC in next 3 stitches, 1 SC decrease (24)

Row 28- 1 SC in next 2 stitches, 1 SC decrease (18)

Row 29- 1 SC in next stitch, 1 SC decrease (12)

There will be a hole in the top at this point. Finish off as you normally would and leave a length of yarn. Use this length of yarn to sew the top shut. I went through the top stitches and pulled it shut.

I hope this pattern makes some kind of sense. I have not tested it. This is more just a way for me to share what I did. I'm sure I don't do things the "right" way.

Roberto from Futurama Cosplay

Welp, back at it again with another Futurama post! I have mentioned in previous posts that Futurama is my favorite show. Roberto is one...
